Widespread Panic
at the Bonnaroo Stadium with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band
|
Schools' "HOME TEAM" t-shirt really said it all. The band kicked off their summer tour amid rumors of Mikey's health and a cancelled European tour, but the positive energy of 70,000 heads completely turned things around for these local heroes. By late Saturday night the band was rolling so hard it seemed like nothing could stop them. As if the show wasn't emotional enough, Dottie Peoples and The People's Choice Choir came out to testify to the Bonnaroo masses. The "Tall Boy>Testify>Tallboy" had every hip in the house shaking. Local old-school fave Steve Winwood had made an appearance earlier in the day Saturday with The Cheese for a rollicking "I'm A Man" and hopes were high for an encore appearance with The Panic. Sure 'nuff, JB introduced his "new friend" for the John Barleycorn chestnut "Glad" and a gorgeous "Low Spark" complete with Randall Bramblett on sax. Bramblett had popped up the previous night for a sweet "Down" and "Sometimes." DJ Logic scratched through drums with Schools on bass before the band slipped into a spine-tingling "Vacation."
