Thursday Night, May 1st, 1997
Although there was much music to choose from in the clubs around New Orleans, there was only one place to be on Thursday night...Tipitina's. The Radiators were playing a private party for the Krewe of Snafu, the inner sanctum of the band's fanbase. The band ripped though a number of rarely heard gems as well as special songs written exclusively for this night. The Re-Birth Brass band kicked off the evenings festivities with a second-line parade around the club, and at set break, Mardi Gras Indians mysteriously appeared in the middle of the street stopping traffic in their exquisitely-plummed costumes, and the whole party joined in a massive drum circle. It was one of the best nights of music over the entire weekend, and certainly one of the best "alternative" shows the Rads have ever played...truly a cosmic experience.
