Phil
Lesh - bass and vocals The "Viola Lee" was so long and intense that many old time family members had to leave their side-stage perch to go catch a breather outside The Warfield. Many swore that these were the best played Dead shows they'd seen in 25 years. And it wasn't even The Dead. Well, it was, sort of. Unless you've been smoking rock for the past five years, you know that April of 1999 marked the true launch of Phil Lesh's solo career, and the first serious signpost to life after Dead. There's been a lot of water under the bridge since these friends worked their magic, from Kimock's departure from the core Friends, Phil's complete estrangement from his Grateful Brethren, Phish's hiatus from the road and subsequent return to the throne of all-things-jamming, and Phil's return home and Birth of The Dead. So, to celebrate the five years since these momentous shows... |
